General information

Drawing on the death act is decease registration basis on death declaration, on term and settled conditions by la law.

Death declaration is made verbally within 3 days from the death occurred. This term includes the day of decease and the day when it is made the declaration.

In case of death registration basis on the certificate that confirms the decease which exceed the one year term from the date when the event occurred, drawing on the death act is made within terms of ulterior registration of civil status act.

In some cases death registration is made on conditions settled for restoration of civil status act:

• repressed person’s death registered basis on communication to the Service of Information and Security of the Republic of Moldova, indifferent of death time;
• death registration basis on final court decision on death declaration of a person.

Are obligated to make the death declaration:

• Family members;
• Deceased’ relatives;
• If there are not the mentioned persons, to declare death are obligated the cotenants, neighbors, building administration, doctor or other person of the health unit where the person died;
• If the person died in penitentiary or other social protection institution, the administration of the penitentiary institution must declare the death.

Required acts for death registration

At the moment of death registration the declaring person must present the following act:

• Medical certificate that confirms the death, issued by the medical institution that has found the death;
• Identity card, soldier’s record or recruiting certificate of the deceased person;
• Birth certificate;
• Declaring person’s identity card.

In special cases:

• Proof, issued by the police or procurator when the death occurred after suicide, accident or other violent actions, and in case of finding a body, from which must result that one of these authorities were notified about the death;
• Communication of the prison administration when the person died in the penitentiary institution.

Place, term and cost of drawing on of death act

Death act is drawing on after a verbal declaration:

• At the Office of civil status or hall town in which territorial range:
  • the person died;
  • the deceased person had the last residence;
  • the body of a deceased person was found;
  • is the institution which issued the act that confirms the death;
• At the Diplomatic missions and consular offices of the Republic of Moldova – if the person died abroad.

Registration of death act on the addressing day, issuing the certificate is free of charge.
